I have this weird love for animated movies that, given everything about them, didn’t need animation as its storytelling vehicle, and The Iron Giant is probably the best example of that. Its feels so much like a live-action film, even has the tone and maturity of one, but the people behind it went that massive extra mile and animated it instead. Even besides that though, just. Wow I love every single thing about this movie. As I said, it’s extremely mature for your average animated movie, full of violence, curse words, and gets really dark at times, especially toward the end. I especially love this animation. I don’t know how they did it, but it all fits so well with the time period it takes place in, and I just really adore these designs. I wish they would’ve done more with this style, but hey, that’s what makes this one so special. Also bonus points for being one of the biggest tearjerkers of a movie in the history of ever.
